Adobe Photoshop is a great photo editing program. You can also render things, apply cool effects, and, and I think this is important, you can easily work with layers.

Adobe Illustrator is also a great program. You can easily draw, edit and save vectors. With the multiple layer blend options and the very good color management, you can make professional and colorful designs.

Perl is a very popular programming language, because it's ease to edit text with regular expressions (ex: /http[s]*:\/\/w{3}.[a-z|A-Z|0-9]+.[com|nl|co.uk]/, this validates an URL).It is a bit like PHP, but PHP is more used for website then Perl, even if Perl can also be used easely to process forms.

PHP is a server language, used to create interactive webpages. It is very easy to connect to a MySQL database, process forms, use variables, and also advanced maths and photo editing.
